Budget? I think not

Even though this site is about finding great makeup deals, sometimes a girl just has to splurge.

Recently, I bought a few more expensive items.

The first is Ole Henriksen african red tea creamy foaming cleanser. I haven't tried it much yet because I'm still finishing up the Fresh cleanser. That's almost done so I'll start this full time in the coming week - just in time for my recital. I love the fruity but not overpowering scent. I'd like to try more of these products. It says one or two pumps, and I normally only need one.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Fresh cleanser but it was $48 for 4.2 (or so) oz., and this was $30 for 7 oz.

Of course, when I was at Sephora splurging on Ole, I looked at foundations, which I probably don't need... I tried the Sephora and then asked the salesperson for help and was guided to the Stila display. Maybe I wasn't sure what I wanted, but ended up getting talked into another foundation. I think I really wanted this "luminizer" since the salesperson said my skin looked so great. I'd like to get it, but we'll see. It might be good for dance.

Speaking of dance, my recital is next weekend so I went to ULTA with Dawn and Sandy last weekend because Sandy wanted to buy us each a lipstick. We settled on a Lavender Shimmer for some of us and Mulberry Shimmer for Maria. At $8 and buy one get one free, buying six wasn't too bad. Sandy was a dear and treated!!

Turia had told us about Urban Decay's Eye Shadow Primer, so the shadow doesn't rub off as we "perspire" under the stage lights. Again, I splurged on the $17, which isn't so bad. It looks like it'll last a long time since all you need is a smudge. I tried it and it works pretty well. The bottle is adorable in UD's trademark purple goth color and fun "Genie in a Bottle" shaped container.

I have to practice my makeup changes. Ballet is going to be the softest and thankfully it's in the first show. The second show is going to be tough since I don't know the order YET!!!

Tap doesn't need to be much, Jazz should be a little bit more and belly dance, the most of course!!

Have fun and enjoy your makeup!!!

Happy "New" Year

Sunday, March 15, 2009

Yes, it's been forever since I posted, but I've been very busy. OK, that's an excuse, but it's true. Work has been extremely busy, but that's GOOD.

What's been going on in the world of make-up and products? Hmmmm.

  1. New places to find discounted cosmetics and products
  2. Make-up for my dance recital
  3. Hair products from Whole Foods

It's been a crazy year with this crazy economy so it's good to know there are places to find discounted beauty products. Where to start?

The first place I found was the Bath and Body Works store in Woodbridge Mall. I just happened to be at the store in January/early February to walk around. Of course, I couldn't resist going in. As I was looking around, the usual full line of high-end products was missing. Turns out they're simplifying their lines and were getting rid of products such as Freeze 24/7. I found a pot of their facial cream for $15, which was originally $65! Great!

Also, a good place to go is TJ Maxx. I found Be Fine products at a discount along a variety of other products. They don't have a regular line, but if you live close and can keep in touch with the salespeople, you might get some really good buys. They also had beauty appliances like hair straighteners that had been returned and out for resale since they couldn't be resold at retail. The only thing I could tell that was different was that the packaging was in shambles, but no big deal if it works.

I have to say that even though I'm very busy practicing for my recital, the best part is the costumes and makeup that I get to buy. Last week, I went to Joyce Leslie, a cheap clothing store that also has cheap makeup. There were several eyeshadow palettes for $3.49-3.99. I got a fun one with 12 shades with glitta! What's dance without glitter and lots of it. This weekend, I'm headed to Ulta to find a nice lipstick and maybe some glow foundation. :))))

The third thing on the list is the selection of beauty products at Whole Foods. They're a bit more expensive, but the store near me has a huge selection of natural products that I can't wait to try more when we have more money!
